Roku features a USB channel that makes it possible to play our own videos and movies. In this article we will focus on how to play DVD movies on Roku/Roku 2 XS with Mac, even the latest Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion .

To play DVD movies on Roku, Roku requires DVD movies encoded to the properly format, and then you will be able to enjoy all of your media files on the convenience of the Roku player. To do so, you will need DVD ripper program. Now I will show you how to use Mac DVD ripper to rip DVD for Roku on Mac.

Step 2: Click the "Load DVD" or "Load IFO" button to load DVD folders/IFO files to the program.

Step 3: Select the video/audio format you want from the "Profile" drop down list.

Note, only the following media file formats are supported by Roku: MKV (H.264), MP4 (H.264), MOV (H.264), WMV/ASF (WMV9/VC-1). Only supported file types are shown in the Roku USB Media Player channel. The app hides unsupported file types, as well as folders with no supported file types in them.

Considering the ripped DVD movies will not only be played on Roku, but will also used on my Mac and my iPad, so I decided to rip DVD to MP4(H.264) as MP4(H.264) is widely supported. So, from the "Profile" drop down list, I select "General Video > H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Video(*.mp4)".

Step 4: Set the output destination from "Destination".

Step 5: Click the big "Convert" button to start ripping DVD to Roku on Mac. It takes about half an hour to one hour for ripping.
